The breathtaking mountain landscape of the Pyrénées spans the national borders of France and Spain, with the peak of Mount Perdu as its notable centerpiece rising to 11,000 feet. This region encompasses two of Europe’s largest and deepest canyons on the Spanish side and three major cirque walls on the more stark and steep northern side of France. This area is also a farming landscape that reflects an agricultural lifestyle that, although once widespread, now survives only in this part of the Pyrénées. This region provides keen reflection into historical European society through its landscape of villages, farms, fields, pastures and mountain roads.
